Safe
Recently one of our hens came up from the barn with 9 chicks in tow. Today she has 5 left. Even though they’re big enough to take care of themselves, that hen runs around, seemingly in effort to keep count of them throughout the day as they run amuck. Every evening she huddles them together, tucks them into a corner and covers them as best she can. Despite all her efforts, there is no rest for that poor hen. Something has picked off one of her chicks the past few nights.
My own “chicks” are grown and have lives of their own. I am not privy to the coming and going of their daily lives, only what they share with me. When my son was welding live gas lines he would call me before going down into the hole, and he would call me again when he came out unscathed. While he was down there, I prayed for God’s protection over him and when my son completed the task and let me know he was alright, I would praise the Lord all the more. I wasn’t able to hold back the gas, keep the welding from causing an explosion or put a flame retardant around my son, nor would I have been able to talk him out of doing what he was skilled and gifted to do. But I could pray.
I have faith in the prayers I say because of the relationship I have with my Heavenly Father.
Today I pray over my children and my grandchildren because I have an understanding of the love the Creator God has for them. They are way too active for me to even think about trying to run around and protect them. There are days that I feel concern for them, but I am never worried about them. I know they are safe. When I pray to the one and only God of heaven and earth, I ask for His will to be done. Trusting Him to know what the best plan is in every situation and in everything. Leaving it all up to Him keeps me safe. Safe from guilt, fear, discouragement, anxiety.
Each of my children, their spouse included, along with my grandchildren, are each covered by the blood of Jesus. Even the toddler and the one being born next week are in the hands of the God who created them. I have confidence in the godly truths they follow and are taught. There is Truth lived out in their homes and the homes they frequent. The activities and fellowship they enjoy are filled with Christ-like examples, so most of my prayers are praises.
It is safe to say, God is in control. Good times, bad times, sorrow, pain and celebration, HE is there.
What is your definition of “safe”?
Deuteronomy 33:12, 33:26-27 (Moses’ example of prayer over the tribes of Isreal)
All the amazing things God used Moses for are not as great and wonderful as the intimacy he had with God. May we strive to know that relationship and the peace of being safe in His care and plan.
