Foundation
When I was in Ag, our welding skills were evaluated by a process that required a number of welds placed in a situation on a small area. We were graded on our ability by the depth, width and cleanliness of our welding.
Some of the “pads” came out six inches high, some leaned to the side. Others looked more like mud pies than decorative silver cake pieces.
The secret to a successful pad was the foundational weld. If the first weld was symmetrical and the beads were laid smoothly the next layer would have opportunity to be the same.
Not too different than a layered cake or even a building.
I chuckle at that analogy, however, the effort to expand the thought of “foundation” should be evident.
A foundation is important. In building a structure and perhaps even more importantly, a life. Structures can be rebuilt; lives don’t always have that ability.
Matthew 7:24-27 gives a thorough explanation about building a life on earth the foundation of truth, Jesus Christ.
When we base our lives on the truth of the gospel, everything else falls into place. Each phase, every step, even the hard things, come together. Oh, there may be times that we may stop and tear something down, rethink the process, maybe change our minds, but if the foundation is good the structure will stand.
Matthew 7:24-27
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
